Irvington Man Ordered to Serve 25 Years Without Parole After Sexual Assault Conviction Involving Child

An Irvington man has been sentenced to 25 years in New Jersey state prison after being convicted of sexually assaulting a 10-year-old girl, according to authorities in Essex County.
The defendant, 64-year-old Osbourne Gooden, will not be eligible for parole during his prison term. Prosecutors said that if he completes the full sentence and is released, he will remain under parole supervision for life and will be required to register as a sex offender under state law.
The sentence follows a jury conviction in October 2025. Gooden was found guilty of aggravated sexual assault, endangering the welfare of a child, and criminal restraint.
Court records show that the incident occurred on June 22, 2020. Authorities said Gooden was sitting on the front porch of a residence with the young victim, her mother, her sister, and another individual before the assault took place.
According to prosecutors, the child later went inside the home and Gooden followed her into the residence. It was there that the sexual assault occurred.
The case moved through the court system over several years before reaching trial, where jurors ultimately found Gooden guilty of multiple serious offenses involving a child victim.
The sentence ensures that Gooden will spend decades behind bars with no opportunity for parole. In addition to the prison term, the lifetime parole supervision requirement and mandatory sex offender registration will remain in effect following any future release.
Cases involving crimes against children are among the most serious offenses prosecuted in New Jersey courts. State laws provide enhanced penalties for individuals convicted of aggravated sexual assault and related crimes involving minors, reflecting the severity of such offenses and the lasting impact they can have on victims and their families.
The sentencing brings the criminal case to a close and marks the final stage of a prosecution that began after the 2020 incident. Essex County authorities stated that the conviction and sentence hold the defendant accountable for the crimes committed against the child victim.
