Bergen County Man Faces Child Endangerment and Assault Charges After Alleged Incident Involving Three Children

Bergen County authorities have charged a Fairview man after an investigation into allegations that three children were assaulted inside a residence, according to prosecutors.

The Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office announced that 40-year-old Paul J. Gomez is facing multiple criminal charges related to an alleged incident involving three children at a home in Fairview, New Jersey. Officials said one of the children suffered serious injuries.

According to prosecutors, Gomez has been charged with three counts of endangering the welfare of a child. He is also facing two counts of simple assault and one count of aggravated assault in connection with the case.

Investigators became aware of the allegations after receiving information from the New Jersey Division of Child Protection and Permanency. Authorities said the agency notified law enforcement on Sunday regarding the reported incident.

Officials stated that the alleged assaults had taken place five days before investigators received the referral. Following the notification, law enforcement launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the case.

The charges announced by prosecutors stem from allegations involving three children inside a Fairview residence. Authorities said one child sustained serious injuries, while the investigation led to multiple criminal counts being filed against Gomez.

At this stage, prosecutors have not released additional details regarding the circumstances of the alleged assaults. As with all criminal cases, the charges represent accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.

The case remains under the jurisdiction of Bergen County authorities as the legal process moves forward. Prosecutors have indicated that the investigation was initiated after information was provided by child welfare officials, leading to the filing of the charges announced this week.

The incident has drawn attention to the role of child protection agencies and law enforcement in responding to reports involving the safety and welfare of children. Authorities continue to handle the matter through the criminal justice system while the case proceeds through the courts.
