Early Morning Hit-and-Run in Hackensack Leaves Pedestrian Dead, Investigation Underway

A tragic hit-and-run incident in Hackensack, New Jersey, has left a pedestrian dead and sparked an active investigation by local authorities.

According to officials, the incident took place shortly before 1:00 a.m. on Friday near the intersection of Essex Street and Summit Avenue. Emergency responders were called to the scene after reports that a pedestrian had been struck by a vehicle that immediately fled the area without stopping.

The victim, an adult male whose identity has not yet been released, suffered severe injuries in the collision. He was quickly transported to a nearby hospital for emergency medical treatment. Despite efforts by medical staff, he later died from his injuries.

Law enforcement authorities, including the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office, confirmed that the driver involved did not remain at the scene. As of now, officials have not released any details regarding the suspect vehicle or the individual responsible for the crash.

Investigators are currently working to gather evidence from the area, including potential surveillance footage and witness statements, in an effort to identify the driver and determine the circumstances that led to the fatal incident.

Authorities have also urged anyone who may have seen the crash or has relevant information to come forward to assist with the ongoing investigation.

Hit-and-run cases remain a serious concern for local law enforcement, as they often leave victims without immediate aid and make it more difficult to quickly identify those responsible. Officials continue to emphasize the importance of drivers remaining at the scene and reporting accidents as required by law.

The investigation into this case is still active, and further updates are expected as more information becomes available.
