Early Morning Blaze Forces Closure of Colonia Middle School in Woodbridge

Colonia Middle School in Woodbridge, New Jersey, was temporarily closed on Wednesday as administrators assessed the situation and ensured the safety of students and staff following an unexpected overnight fire inside an art classroom.
Local authorities claim that the fire started at 1:45 a.m. and was swiftly contained by emergency personnel. Heavy smoke crept throughout the facility despite the fire’s restricted spread, raising questions about the safety and purity of the air inside the school.
The Woodbridge Police Department’s top law enforcement officer, Brian Murphy, attested to the fact that emergency personnel acted quickly and contained the fire to only one classroom. Before any additional inspection or cleanup could start, work was being done in the early morning to ventilate the facility and remove the smoke.
The fire department’s prompt action was crucial in averting a more serious situation, according to school officials. According to Superintendent Dr. Joseph Massimino, the fire did not spread beyond of the impacted classroom, reducing structural damage but necessitating a thorough assessment of the structure.
On March 25, the administration declared that Colonia Middle School would be closed for the day as a precaution. The shutdown offers school administrators time to assess the overall effects on the building and instructional environment while also enabling fire officials to finish their investigation.
Additionally, authorities have affirmed that the incident is not currently being investigated as suspicious. There are currently no signs of foul play, but investigators are still looking into the cause.
About 600 pupils in grades 6 through 8 attend Colonia Middle School. After safety inspections and required repairs are finished, school administrators are scheduled to give updates on reopening plans.
The event emphasizes how crucial it is for schools to be ready for emergencies and act quickly in order to save lives and property in unforeseen circumstances.
