Eagles Target Top Pass Rushers After Free Agency Setback

The Philadelphia Eagles failed to sign former Cincinnati Bengals edge rusher Trey Hendrickson in free agency to improve their defense. Hendrickson chose the Ravens over the Eagles and signed a four-year, $112 million contract. This move occurred after the Eagles failed to re-sign defensive star Jaelan Phillips, who signed a four-year, $130 million deal with the Panthers.

Philadelphia’s pursuit of Hendrickson showed its dedication to pass rush. With Phillips gone, the Eagles are looking to couple young stars Jalyx Hunt and Nolan Smith with another top-tier edge rusher to keep their defense strong.

The team has considered Vikings pass rusher Jonathan Greenard, who is allegedly available for a Day 2 pick. Despite missing games due to a shoulder injury last season, Greenard has recorded double-digit sacks before, with 12.5 in 2023 and 12 in 2024.

The Eagles have also considered Miami Dolphins pass rusher Bradley Chubb, who is set to be released after June 1. After working with Eagles defensive coordinator Vic Fangio in Miami, Chubb might be a significant addition. Chubb has 11 sacks in 2023 and 8.5 in 2025, but he missed 2024 with a ruptured ACL.

Hendrickson has the most potential, but Greenard and Chubb are both talented alternatives. Analysts expect Philadelphia to sign one of these pass rushers or another significant player in the coming days to replace Phillips and strengthen their defensive line. The Eagles’ proactive approach shows a front administration determined to stay competitive and adaptable in the NFL.

The Eagles’ defensive plan for the season will depend on the next few weeks of free agency and trades. Philadelphia must replace great pass-rushing talent to be a contender, and fans and analysts are watching.
