North Jersey Braces for Slushy Snow Overnight as Storm Brings Rain to South

Forecasters expect a wet night in New Jersey and a light snowfall by Monday morning. The latest National Weather Service forecast predicts 1 to 2 inches of snow in northern New Jersey and persistent rain in the south.
Weather officials say the storm system coming across the region has slightly modified track, affecting snowfall projections. The new forecast predicts the most steady 1–2 inch snowfall north of I-195. A 20% risk exists that isolated northern locations might experience more than 2 inches before precipitation ends early Monday.
The system should enter the state between 3 and 7 p.m. Snow will likely fall steadily in northern regions at night. Snow may turn to rain overnight in central regions, minimizing accumulation. Warmer air will keep southern areas primarily rainy, minimizing snowfall.
Drivers should remain cautious overnight and early morning. Northerly temperatures are approaching freezing, so snowfall might turn slushy and slick unprotected roadways, bridges, and overpasses. Small amounts of snow can make travel dangerous if surfaces become slick. Officials advise extra travel time Monday morning and being aware of changing road conditions.
As the storm moves offshore, forecast models predict snowfall to diminish from west to east between 4 and 7 a.m. Monday. Statewide, conditions should improve by lunchtime.
On Monday, temperatures will reach 40 degrees with mild winds of 5–10 mph. The somewhat milder air will melt residual snow, especially in lightly covered places.
After two weeks of chilly weather, locals might expect a break. From Tuesday to Friday, daytime highs will reach the mid to upper 40s and potentially low 50s, warmer than typical.
Not all will be dry this week. NJ may receive precipitation from two more systems. Wednesday afternoon and night might bring rain, and Friday could bring more. Both systems might bring freezing rain or light snow north of Interstate 80, depending on how they develop. Updates on forecast time and track are expected throughout the week.
Starting Monday, northern New Jersey residents should expect slushy weather, while southern counties can expect largely rainy conditions. As always, following official forecasts and planning for changeable weather will make the week start safer.
