Teen Charged After Gasoline Fire Pit Accident Injures Seven in Berkeley Township

A Berkeley Township adolescent was charged with arson after a New Year’s Eve fire injured seven. The teen started a backyard fire pit flash fire by pouring gasoline onto it, according to authorities.
People asked for help after a North Trenton Avenue residence caught fire around 8 p.m. The party fire suddenly injured many, but police and first responders arrived promptly. Two were transferred to Community Medical Center in Toms River, one to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune, and three for treatment.
Investigators spotted the kid trying to ignite a fire in the fire pit on New Year’s Eve. The teen kept dumping five-gallon canister gas on the flames, creating a huge flash fire. Police interviewed the injured and the child to determine what happened and confirm injuries.
The Ring doorbell camera from the house showed the crime, which the police examined. This vivid evidence confirmed the investigators’ findings and showed where and how the fire started.
The child was charged with six arson crimes on January 23. Officials haven’t spoken much because the person is young. Officials stated that the case involved a kid and that state child protection laws prevented them from disclosing more details.
Families and communities are reminded to be careful when using combustible goods near open flames, such as a fire pit or heat source. To avoid mishaps and serious injuries, emergency responders advise caution with fire, gasoline, and other materials.
