Former MLB Player Backs Federal Immigration Agents After Fatal Minneapolis Operation

After a Minneapolis enforcement operation tragedy, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement drew global notice and political reaction. Former MLB player and Republican congressional candidate Mark Teixeira endorsed the agency.

Federal officials fatally shot 37-year-old Renee Good as she tried to drive away from an ICE operation in Minneapolis on Wednesday morning. ICE said they fired in self-defense because the woman took risks with her car. Police claim the operation was a response to an immediate threat.

Witnesses on scene disputed. Videotakers said the woman appeared to be fleeing rather than hitting the officers. These contradictory accounts have raised questions about federal immigration enforcement and raid force.

Shooting reached government leaders quickly. Thursday’s White House briefing saw Vice President JD Vance defend ICE officers and the administration’s immigration enforcement tactics. The president, vice president, and administration aid federal agents in legal matters. Vance warned people who intimidated, harassed, or tried to identify immigration authorities that such actions would not stop enforcement.

Mike Pence’s social media statements were addressed by Mark Teixeira. Vance’s remark graphic was reposted by Teixeira to support the administration. His succinct, unambiguous message supported ICE’s actions and goal.

Republican candidate for Texas’s 21st Congressional District is former Yankees first baseman Teixeira. The district is represented by Republican Texas attorney general candidate Chip Roy. In Republican policy debates, Teixeira supports severe immigration enforcement.

Federal police safety, force usage, and accountability are questioned after the Minneapolis event. Due to ongoing investigations, immigration enforcement, public trust, and law enforcement-civililian safety have become national issues.

Teixeira and Vice President Vance’s comments illustrate that the administration and Republican politicians support ICE officers on the ground, despite nationwide anger.
