Northern and Central New Jersey to Face Fog and Icy Roads Tonight

Tonight, fog and freezing rain may make northern and central New Jersey highways treacherous. The NWS anticipates moderate rain from west to east tonight with temperatures below freezing in northwest New Jersey’s higher altitudes.
Late Tuesday night and early Wednesday morning may bring freezing rain to northwest New Jersey above 1,200 feet. Ice buildup is forecast to be a few hundredths of an inch, but roads may get sloppy. Though unlikely to damage trees or cause power outages, this limited ice buildup may make travel dangerous, experts said.
A northbound warm front brings fog and freezing rain. Fog can reach a quarter mile north of I-195. Predawn Wednesday southern fog will lift north.
By Wednesday morning, a cold front will clear the fog and bring breeze. Northwest winds gust 20–30 mph before lessening later. Wednesday could reach the mid- to upper-40s, warmer than Tuesday night.
High pressure will bring dry, 40s weather to New Jersey on Thursday. This forecasts warmer, variable weekend weather. Friday night’s warm front will bring isolated showers today and overnight. Friday should reach 50 degrees, 10–15 degrees above seasonal average.
Saturday will bring widespread showers from a 50s cold front. West winds and rain are forecast Sunday. After a cold front passes Sunday evening, much of the state will be dry and in the 30s and 40s by Monday.
In high-altitude and fog, drive carefully tonight and Wednesday. Checking weather updates and adjusting travel plans will keep you safe.
