Cold Air Holds On as Light Snow Targets North Jersey, Rain Follows Midweek

Midweek Rain Follows Light Snow in North Jersey

This week will be cold and unstable in New Jersey, with some snow expected before conditions improve. Forecasters forecast light wintry action, but northerners could expect changes in the coming days.

Sunday night temperatures in the teens and 20s across the state are expected to cause Monday snowfall. Light snow may fall in northern New Jersey, especially north of Interstate 78. Snow should be light in most areas.

While central and southern parts remain dry, northern communities may lose visibility by Monday afternoon and evening. On Monday, most of New Jersey will expect 30s afternoon highs, with southeast areas perhaps reaching 40s.

Warm weather is forecast Monday night and Tuesday morning. Slowly rising temperatures will help the state avoid winter. Statewide highs should approach 40s by Tuesday afternoon. Tuesday should be generally dry, although another system may bring clouds later.

Northeastern New Jersey may get light rain Tuesday night. That area may see light snow or freezing rain due to near-freezing temperatures. Not much rain is expected elsewhere.

Air is dryer on Wednesday, enhancing midweek conditions. Expect west-northwest breezes and plenty of sunlight. Seasonable temperatures will temporarily calm restlessness despite the wind.

A significant warmup is expected later this week. High pressure brings dry weather, sunshine, and 10 degrees above average temperatures for this time of year on Thursday. Areas south of Interstate 78 may reach 50°F, while northern areas linger in the 40s.

By Friday, stronger storms north and west of New Jersey will disrupt local weather. The warm front of this system may bring showers and strong southerlies with mid- to high-50s temperatures. Southern highs may reach 60 degrees before a cold front hits late Saturday.

New Jersey may have blustery weather and colder temperatures on Sunday as the cold front passes. The week ahead will offer light wintry weather, rain, and a brief warm spell, showing late-season variety.
