Beloved Montclair Charcuterie Shop to Close as Owners Move On to New Ventures

A popular Montclair, New Jersey, family-owned charcuterie shop will close this month. Butler and the Board, 103 Forest Street, closes Dec. 30.
As their lease expired, Jeff and Cathy Butler closed. Both thanked the community for their support as they grew their business in a heartwarming social media post. The Butlers closed because their lease expired and they wanted to try something new.
In Montclair and beyond, Butler and the Board popularized small-batch sausages, pâtés, and cold meats. Customers enjoyed the shop’s high-quality products, personalized service, and unique everyday and special occasion options. Over time, foodies and families frequented the butcher store.
The Butlers thanked their family for helping them start the business, their employees for their hard work, and devoted customers for keeping the shop operating. Visit before closing to admire leftover goodies and redeem gift vouchers by December 30.
Butler and the Board’s closure is typical of New Jersey’s family-owned small enterprises, which struggle with leases, rising pricing, and changing business ideas. Butler and the Board are ending well, while others have boosted internet sales or diversified.
The closure of this famous Montclair shop is bittersweet. Longtime consumers remember trying new tastes, attending sampling events, and appreciating a family-owned business’s personal touch. Jeff and Cathy Butler can now pursue new personal and professional goals after the shop closed.
Butler and the Board invite Montclair Township residents to try their services before December 30. The Butlers’ decision underlines the importance of supporting local businesses, celebrating their successes, and acknowledging every tiny, family-run firm’s hard work.
