N.J. Weather: Snow, Sleet, and Ice Could Make Tuesday Morning Roads Slick Across the State

A fresh storm system may bring snow, sleet, freezing rain, and rain to northern fresh Jersey Tuesday morning. Even with less snow, the storm will make early Tuesday tough, especially in the northwest.

Northerners can expect light snow, sleet, and freezing rain. Unclean roads can freeze winter mix, making driving dangerous. Winter weather advisories for Hunterdon, Morris, Sussex, Warren, and northern Passaic.

The NWS anticipates heavy morning rain in New Jersey. From south to north, rain will fall in the morning and afternoon. Snow will fall northwest of I-95 overnight. Some regions may get sleet or freezing rain during this shift.

Time and height determine snowfall. Upper Sussex County may get 4–6 inches of snow. Before it rains, I-78 north of I-95 may snow 1–2 inches. The storm will bring 0.5 to 1/4 inch of rain south of I-195 and the Jersey Shore.

Over time, winds intensify. Tuesday morning windy, northwest afternoon windy. Winds will be 15–25 mph with 35 mph gusts. Strong winds and snow can knock out northern power.

Seaside temperatures rise from mid-30s in the northwest to upper-40s. Post-storm winds will lessen. Wednesday highs will be mid-30s to low-40s. Weather will be mostly clear. If Tuesday night is cold enough, water, slush, and snow may freeze again. Overpasses, bridges, and roads north of I-78 may be black ice.

Clouds and strong west-northwest winds are forecast Thursday. Highs will be mid-30s–low-40s. Most of New Jersey will be in the teens and northwest in the single digits Thursday night. The coldest night of the week. Five to fifteen degrees above zero due to wind.

Friday night and Saturday will bring more storms. Data suggests rain and snow will move quickly. Additional details will be released as the system approaches.

Cooler by 10–15 degrees this week. Most chilly will occur Friday and late Thursday.
