2 sisters killed in N.J. fire while trying to save their father on Thanksgiving

A Thanksgiving house fire killed two Orange, New Jersey sisters trying to save their disabled father. The Mosswood Avenue residence burned around 5 p.m. Frantzia Fleury, 49, and PJ Fleury, 42, died at 6:47 p.m.

The Essex County Prosecutor’s Office said the sisters died saving their dementia-afflicted father from the fire. Smoke inhalation hospitalized the father, while the other six housemates survived.

Friends, family, and neighbors describe the sisters as nice and family-oriented. Their cousin stated the girls “had big hearts” and were duty-bound to their father. Residents remembered aiding while the home burned.

The Mosswood Avenue residence is unlivable. The fire’s cause and witnesses are being sought.
