Strong Storm System to Bring Gusty Winds and Thunder to New Jersey Tonight

A fast-moving storm front crossing New Jersey late Sunday night or early Monday will modify the weather quickly. The state will experience a severe cold front overnight. Showers and thunderstorms with 60 mph winds and over an inch of rain will occur in a limited area. Warm to windy and awful to nice at the start of the week.

Most people should not be outside or preparing when the storm line approaches between 10 p.m. Sunday and 3 a.m. Monday. Winds up to 60 mph can lift suburban and forest tree branches and electrical wires. Although unlikely, meteorologists believe stronger cells could cause storms. Morning roadways may be muddy and hard to see after an inch of rain.

The cold front will drop Monday’s highs by 10–15 degrees after the storm. Wind and cold may chill it. Storms will end at night, but wind will continue. Winds 20–30 mph may last until Wednesday. The weather will calm before another weak front Tuesday night. The weather will be nice and dry till Thursday and Friday.

Unless New Jersey businesses and homeowners prepare now, the repercussions will worsen. Clean up outside and trim trees. Expect power outages or minor damage. Drive carefully at night, especially if strong winds could hurl debris or generate crosswinds. Heavy gusts and thunder are anticipated all night and Monday morning, but no severe weather alert is in effect.

In summary, a fast-moving cold front will bring New Jersey showers, 60 mph winds, and at least one inch of rain overnight. Midweek will bring calm winds. Monday will be cold. People should expect the disturbance’s strongest winds.
