Ohio Republican Lawmaker Rejects Calls to End Campaign as Family Dispute Escalates

Ohio Republican Rep. Max Miller has made it clear that he will continue his re-election campaign despite growing public criticism from Sen Bernie Moreno, a fellow Republican and former family member by marriage. The disagreement has drawn national attention after serious allegations involving Miller became the centre of an ongoing legal and political dispute.

The controversy stems from accusations made by Emily Moreno, Miller’s former wife and the daughter of Sen. Bernie Moreno. She has alleged that Miller subjected her to multiple acts of domestic abuse during their marriage. According to court filings, the accusations include claims that Miller threatened her with a firearm, pushed her into a wall, poured hot water on her, and caused a collarbone fracture for their young daughter.

Miller has firmly denied every allegation. During a lengthy livestream on the social media platform X, he described the claims as false and politically damaging. He insisted that he has done nothing wrong and confirmed that he has no intention of ending his campaign for another term in Congress.

The Ohio congressman also pointed to what he described as inconsistencies in the accusations. He questioned why his former wife would have continued communicating with him and invited him to family activities after the alleged incidents if the claims were true. Miller argued that these interactions contradict the narrative presented in court filings.

The dispute became even more public when Sen. Bernie Moreno released a strongly worded statement calling on Miller to seek professional help. The senator said he had hoped to keep the family matter private but believed Miller’s behaviour had reached a point where speaking publicly was necessary. Moreno stated that his primary concern is protecting his daughter and his two-year-old granddaughter.

In his statement, Moreno argued that Miller no longer meets the level of personal character expected from someone serving in public office. It marked the first time the senator openly called for Miller to step aside from his congressional campaign.

The latest comments represent a significant shift from Moreno’s earlier public position. Only days before his statement, the senator declined to say whether Miller should remain on the ballot, telling reporters that he did not know before refusing to discuss the issue further. A spokesperson for Moreno later said additional comments could not be provided because the matter involves ongoing litigation affecting his family.

The allegations against Miller first became public through court documents filed as part of divorce and child custody proceedings. Since then, the legal battle has expanded beyond family court. Miller has filed defamation lawsuits against his former wife, arguing that the accusations have damaged both his personal reputation and his political career.
