Trump ‘edited’ out of major World Cup photo: ‘Something’s missing’

Spain’s historic World Cup victory became the center of a social media conversation after one of the team’s celebration photos shared online appeared without U.S. President Donald Trump, despite his presence during the trophy presentation ceremony.

Spain secured its second FIFA World Cup title by defeating defending champion Argentina 1-0 in Sunday’s final. The victory marked a memorable moment for the Spanish national team as players celebrated on the podium while lifting the championship trophy amid falling gold confetti.

During the official trophy presentation, President Donald Trump was present on stage and handed the World Cup trophy to the Spanish team. As the celebrations unfolded, he remained near the players while FIFA President Gianni Infantino appeared to guide the ceremony.

However, shortly after the celebrations, Spain’s official social media account shared a photograph of the trophy lift that quickly drew widespread attention online. Many social media users noticed that Trump was not visible in the published image, leading to speculation and humorous reactions across multiple platforms.

Several users questioned whether the image had been edited before being shared. Others posted jokes suggesting that “something was missing” from the celebration photo, while many commented that Trump appeared to have been removed from the final version of the image. The discussion quickly gained momentum as screenshots and reactions spread across social media.

Although the online debate focused on the published photograph, Trump was visibly present during the official medal ceremony and trophy presentation. He personally presented Spain with the World Cup trophy following the team’s championship victory, making him the first sitting U.S. president to attend a men’s FIFA World Cup final.

The event also brought together several international leaders. Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney attended the final and greeted players during the medal presentation ceremony alongside other dignitaries.

Before kickoff, Trump avoided predicting a winner but acknowledged that Argentina entered the match with one of football’s biggest stars.

Speaking before the final, Trump said he preferred not to take sides, while noting that it was difficult to bet against Argentine captain Lionel Messi.

The World Cup final also came only weeks after Trump publicly criticized Spain over defense spending during the NATO summit in Turkey. At that time, he accused Spain of not contributing enough financially to the NATO alliance and made critical remarks regarding future trade relations with the country.

Despite those earlier political comments, Sunday’s championship ceremony proceeded with Trump taking part in the official trophy presentation before Spain celebrated its World Cup triumph.

While the match itself will be remembered for Spain’s championship-winning performance, much of the online conversation afterward shifted toward the widely shared celebration photograph, with many social media users debating why one of the ceremony’s most recognizable figures did not appear in the team’s published image.
