Yankees Select Andy Pettitte’s Son Luke in 2026 MLB Draft as Aaron Boone Shares His Reaction

The New York Yankees have added another member of the Pettitte family to the organization after selecting Luke Pettitte in the eighth round of the 2026 MLB Draft with the 248th overall pick. The selection marks a new chapter for the son of Yankees legend Andy Pettitte, whose name remains closely connected with the franchise.

Yankees manager Aaron Boone welcomed the news and expressed his excitement about Luke Pettitte joining the organization. Boone, who played alongside Andy Pettitte during the 2003 season, said he was happy to see another member of the Pettitte family become part of the Yankees.

Boone explained that Andy Pettitte continues to have a meaningful presence around the team and remains an important part of the club’s culture. He also shared that he has followed Luke Pettitte’s journey and praised the way the young player handled a challenging season.

Luke Pettitte, 21, plays as both a pitcher and a hitter for Dallas Baptist University. However, he did not take the mound during the most recent college season after undergoing Tommy John surgery. Despite being unable to pitch, he continued contributing as a hitter, something Boone highlighted while discussing his determination and work ethic.

Speaking about the draft pick, Boone said he was looking forward to watching Luke Pettitte’s development in the Yankees organization. He described him as a great young player and said the news was exciting for everyone connected with the club.

Before missing the latest season as a pitcher, Luke Pettitte appeared in 17 games over parts of his first two seasons at Dallas Baptist University. During that span, he recorded a 3.19 earned run average across 48 innings. According to MLB scouting information, his pitching arsenal includes a fastball that reaches the low 90s along with a slider thrown in the mid-80s.

The Yankees’ decision to draft Luke Pettitte brings a familiar family name back into the organization while giving the young two-way player an opportunity to begin his professional baseball career. As he continues recovering from Tommy John surgery and works toward returning to the mound, the organization will closely follow his progress in the years ahead.

The selection also adds another meaningful connection between the Yankees’ past and future. While Andy Pettitte built a memorable career in New York, Luke Pettitte now begins his own path with the same franchise, aiming to create a career that reflects his own talent and perseverance.
