New Jersey Unveils Statewide America 250 Celebration Schedule with Historic Events, Fireworks and Community Festivals

New Jersey is preparing for one of the biggest public celebrations in its history as communities across the state mark the 250th anniversary of American independence with a wide range of America 250 events. Running throughout the summer and centered around the Fourth of July, the statewide program brings together historical commemorations, family festivals, military reenactments, concerts, parades, fireworks, museum events, and cultural celebrations.
The commemorative schedule stretches through the end of August and highlights New Jersey’s important role during the American Revolution. From historic battlefields and museums to waterfront celebrations and neighborhood festivals, residents and visitors will have opportunities to experience the state’s Revolutionary War history while taking part in modern Independence Day celebrations.
One of the most anticipated attractions is the return of international tall ships during the Sail4th 250 celebration. Visitors in several New Jersey locations, including Fort Lee, Liberty State Park, Jersey City, Sandy Hook and Elizabeth, will be able to watch dozens of historic sailing vessels travel along the Hudson River as part of the national America 250 observance. Many waterfront locations will also feature fireworks, live entertainment and family-friendly activities throughout the day.
History also takes center stage across New Jersey through several Revolutionary War reenactments. Bergen County will recreate General George Washington’s 1778 visit to the Hermitage with military drills, musket demonstrations, colonial crafts and educational activities. Monmouth County will continue its long tradition of honoring the Battle of Monmouth through commemorative ceremonies, guided tours and battlefield programs that recognize one of the largest single-day battles of the Revolutionary War.
Trenton, often referred to as one of the birthplaces of American independence, will host one of the state’s largest America 250 celebrations during Heritage Week. Scheduled from July 2 through July 8, the city will feature Independence Day parades, multicultural festivals, museum programs, walking tours, baseball, fireworks and the public reading of the Declaration of Independence. The reopening of the historic Old Barracks Museum on July 4 also serves as one of the signature events of New Jersey’s America 250 calendar following renovation work.
Communities throughout Atlantic County are planning several family-focused events during July. Atlantic City will begin the celebrations with patriotic drone shows at Ocean Casino Resort every Friday throughout the month before concluding Independence Day with its annual Boardwalk celebration featuring live entertainment and a large fireworks display.
Bergen County offers a mix of history and entertainment. Along with the Sail4th 250 viewing opportunities, residents can attend the Bergen Star-Spangled Spectacular featuring live music, food vendors, children’s activities and fireworks. Visitors interested in Revolutionary history can also participate in guided walking tours at Historic New Bridge Landing.
Camden County combines waterfront celebrations with historical attractions. The Battleship New Jersey will host an Independence Day event featuring live music, food and views of fireworks along the Delaware River. Meanwhile, the Freedom Festival at Wiggins Park will welcome visitors with live performances, while Haddonfield will celebrate with its annual Independence Day parade, block party and the community’s first July Fourth drone show.
Cape May County’s Historic Cold Spring Village will recognize America’s 250th birthday through a two-day living history celebration that recreates colonial life and Revolutionary-era traditions. Gloucester County will also honor the anniversary at historic Fort Billingsport with living history demonstrations, educational programs and family activities highlighting the site’s military significance.
Hudson County is expected to attract some of the largest crowds during the holiday weekend. Jersey City’s waterfront festival at Exchange Place combines live entertainment, food vendors, carnival rides and family attractions while offering excellent viewing opportunities for both the Sail4th 250 Parade of Sail and the evening fireworks display. Liberty State Park will also provide one of the state’s premier public viewing areas for the historic fleet and nighttime celebrations.
Mercer County’s schedule extends well beyond Independence Day. Along with Trenton Heritage Week, visitors can enjoy patriotic concerts at Washington Crossing State Park, multicultural festivals, museum events, historical exhibits, food demonstrations, educational programs and children’s colonial camps throughout July.
Middlesex County focuses heavily on educational programming. The Cornelius Low House Museum presents an exhibition exploring divided loyalties during the American Revolution, while East Jersey Old Town Village hosts a full Independence Day celebration featuring historical reenactors, colonial music, theatrical performances, crafts and guided tours.
Monmouth County remains one of the central locations for Revolutionary War remembrance. Visitors can attend America 250 ceremonies at Monmouth Battlefield State Park, guided battlefield tours, Oceanfest in Long Branch with fireworks over the Atlantic Ocean, Sandy Hook’s tall ships celebration, community birthday festivals and several history-focused programs continuing through August.
Elsewhere across the state, communities have developed celebrations that combine local traditions with the national anniversary. Morris County continues its long-running Fourth of July parade tradition in Florham Park while Morristown National Historical Park presents dramatic readings of the Declaration of Independence and colonial demonstrations. Ocean County hosts patriotic concerts and fireworks, while Passaic County welcomes families to Dey Mansion for picnics and Revolutionary War living history programs.
Somerset County’s calendar includes baseball celebrations, fireworks, colonial entertainment and living history events throughout July. Sussex County marks the anniversary during a baseball game featuring one of the franchise’s largest fireworks displays. Union County rounds out the statewide schedule with waterfront festivals, cultural performances, family activities, soccer tournaments, historical exhibitions and educational programs continuing into August.
The America 250 schedule reflects New Jersey’s unique place in the nation’s founding story. Many of the featured events are designed not only to celebrate Independence Day but also to educate residents and visitors about the state’s role during the Revolutionary War through museums, battlefield programs, historical demonstrations and community partnerships.
Officials encourage anyone planning to attend these events to confirm schedules, locations and admission details before traveling, as summer event times may change. With activities taking place across nearly every region of New Jersey, the America 250 program offers residents multiple opportunities to participate in the state’s largest commemoration of the nation’s 250th anniversary.
