A 17-year-old high school senior from Union County has died weeks after she was critically injured in a serious traffic accident during a family trip in Florida. The incident, which happened while the family was traveling in Miami, has left the local community and school district in deep mourning.
Officials from the Township of Union confirmed the death of Olivia Belloso, a student at Union High School and a member of the Junior ROTC program. She had been hospitalized since the crash that took place on May 15 and was fighting for her life following severe injuries.
According to information shared by local authorities and a family fundraising page, the Belloso family was traveling in a taxi when the vehicle was struck from behind by a cement truck. The impact of the crash resulted in critical injuries to Olivia, while other family members were also affected.
Her two brothers, Joshua, 21, and Owen, 8, were seriously injured in the accident. Reports indicate that both have shown improvement and have been moved out of intensive care at a Florida hospital. Their parents, Orlando and Wilmaris Belloso, suffered minor injuries and have since been discharged after receiving medical treatment.
