Aberdeen Crash Claims Life of Father Carrying 4-Year-Old Son; Officials Confirm Identity

Authorities in Monmouth County have confirmed the identity of a 38-year-old man who died after being struck by a vehicle while crossing a roadway with his young son in Aberdeen on Saturday night.
The incident took place on Route 35 near the intersection of Cliffwood Avenue at approximately 9:16 p.m., according to officials from the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office. Investigators said the father was carrying his 4-year-old son at the time of the collision when a pickup truck struck both of them.
Emergency responders arrived quickly at the scene, but the father, identified as Anthony A. Trujillo of Aberdeen, was pronounced dead on site due to the severity of his injuries. His young son survived the crash and was transported to a nearby hospital, where medical staff treated him for facial cuts and other non-life-threatening injuries.
Law enforcement officials have stated that, based on the initial investigation, the traffic signal was green for the driver of the pickup truck at the time of the incident. Aberdeen Police Chief Matthew Lloyd previously confirmed this detail during early updates to the public.
At this stage, authorities have not announced any criminal charges against the driver involved, and the investigation remains ongoing as officials continue to review the circumstances surrounding the crash, including traffic flow, visibility conditions, and witness statements.
The tragic incident has drawn attention to pedestrian safety along busy roadways, particularly during nighttime hours when visibility is reduced and traffic activity remains steady. Officials have not released additional details regarding whether speed or other contributing factors played a role.
Community members in Aberdeen have expressed concern and sadness over the loss, as the investigation continues under the supervision of local law enforcement and the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office.
