Trump Reacts as Melania Publicly Denies Epstein Links, Raises Call for Survivor Hearings

Former President Donald Trump has responded after First Lady Melania Trump made a rare public statement addressing allegations connected to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, a move that reportedly surprised several White House officials.

Melania Trump firmly rejected claims linking her to Epstein and his associate Ghislaine Maxwell, who is currently serving a 20-year prison sentence for her role in Epstein’s sex trafficking case. In her remarks, she described the accusations as “false smears” and made it clear that she had no relationship with Epstein, no knowledge of his crimes, and was not among his victims. She also called on Congress to hold a public hearing for survivors of Epstein’s abuse, saying that only through such proceedings can the truth fully come out.

According to reports, the timing and nature of her statement caught some White House officials off guard. While a spokesperson confirmed that Donald Trump was aware that Melania planned to speak publicly, it remains unclear whether he knew the subject of her remarks in advance.

Speaking briefly in a phone interview, Donald Trump said he was not informed beforehand about the details of Melania’s statement. He reiterated that Melania did not know Epstein and quickly ended the conversation, citing an ongoing meeting related to the situation in Iran.

The First Lady’s statement has also drawn political reactions. Some Democratic lawmakers on the House Oversight Committee have called for her to testify under oath as part of ongoing inquiries into Epstein-related matters. One lawmaker suggested that if she intends to clear her name, appearing before the committee would be the appropriate step. Others have shown support for her suggestion to hold public hearings focused on survivors, urging leadership to act quickly.

In addressing past communications, Melania Trump acknowledged a 2002 email exchange with Ghislaine Maxwell, which surfaced in documents released by the Department of Justice. She described the interaction as casual and emphasized that it should not be interpreted as a meaningful connection. The email reportedly included general remarks and did not indicate any deeper relationship.

Melania also clarified that while she and Donald Trump may have attended some of the same social events as Epstein in places like New York City and Palm Beach, she was never personally associated with him. Donald Trump, who has previously acknowledged knowing Epstein socially, has consistently denied any involvement in or knowledge of Epstein’s criminal activities. He has also dismissed ongoing efforts to release investigative files as politically motivated.

The situation continues to draw attention as political pressure grows around transparency, accountability, and justice for victims. Melania Trump’s direct and public denial, combined with her call for survivor-focused hearings, has added a new dimension to an already high-profile and sensitive issue.
