Trump Endorses Van Drew as a ‘MAGA Warrior’ in New Jersey Race

Jeff Van

For his 2nd Congressional District reelection campaign, former President Donald Trump called New Jersey Representative Jeff Van Drew a “MAGA Warrior”. Trump’s support on Wednesday showed his dominance in Republican primaries and care for pals a year before the election.

Trump praised House Judiciary Subcommittee on Oversight Chairman Van Drew for supporting the “America First Agenda.” Trump’s speech covered “migrant crime,” illegal immigration, economic development, tax reduction, and rule reform. Trump also praised Van Drew’s military, energy independence, and Second Amendment support.

Unlike Jeff Van Drew to run for office. Republicans held his 2018 district since 1995 until Democrats won. Van Drew supported Trump in his first term as a Republican. The GOP gave him three more votes in 2020, 2022, and 2024.

Van Drew controls federal investigations and laws as oversight subcommittee chair. In the second week of the government shutdown, he and other Republicans blame Democrats for Congress’ gridlock, excessive spending, and slowness.

Early support suggests Trump wants a conservative Congress. He wants to prove he’s GOP leader by rallying Republicans around Van Drew. Van Drew can talk to Trump fans, use his campaign tools, and get money via money networks.

Trump support is risky. Trump talk could cost him moderate or independent votes in a close district like New Jersey’s 2nd. Van Drew must please Trump and others in coming months.

By supporting like-minded candidates and incumbents, Trump shows his interest in down-ballot races. Trump thinks Van Drew can help.

The campaign will show how important Trump’s support is in New Jersey politics, how Van Drew uses the spotlight, and whether his opponents can dispute the story or find flaws in a non-conservative district Van Drew will face more scrutiny, celebrity support, and message disputes next year if he seeks another term.
