Snow and Ice Expected to Impact Travel Across Parts of Northern New Jersey

The NWS has issued a winter weather advisory for many northern New Jersey counties due to nocturnal and next-day storms. Snow and icy roads make morning and daytime driving in Sussex, Passaic, and western Bergen problematic.

Affected areas may receive 1–4 inches of snow. Inland and higher are typical. Snow can gently cover bridges and roads.

Advisory periods vary by county. Passaic and Bergen counties may get heavy snow from early Tuesday morning to late afternoon, while Sussex County is warned. Slush and snow may hinder visibility and driving safety during these hours.

State and municipal transportation officials advise drivers to prepare ahead, give extra time, and travel safely. An untreated side roadway, bridge, or flyover can ice quickly after a small snowfall, making driving unsafe. In recent weather events, officials have warned that even little snow and ice can cause accidents if drivers don’t slow down.

Untreated surfaces can accumulate morning and evening snow and ice. To avoid delays, experts advise checking weather updates and carrying blankets, a torch, and traction materials.

This winter weather advisory was issued due to late fall and early winter snow, sleet, and freezing rain. Little snow is anticipated, but minor quantities might interrupt transport and everyday activities if sheltered.

Local authorities warn that conditions may alter as the system crosses the state. Advisory zone families should follow NWS and state/county emergency management updates for winter safety.
