Podcaster Jennifer Welch Blames Biden Administration for Missed Chance to Hold Trump Accountable

The popular progressive podcast “I’ve Had It” co-host Jennifer Welch has openly criticized former President Joe Biden and his administration for failing to aggressively prosecute former President Donald Trump, arguing that it deepened political tensions and controversies in the US.

On the podcast “Choice Words with Samantha Bee,” Welch voiced dissatisfaction over recent events and the political climate. While discussing the Minnesota shootings of two U.S. citizens and the Iran conflict, she claimed she was furious. She said many Americans get affected when they see tough news at home and overseas.

Welch slammed the previous administration’s Trump legal prosecution when highlighting these issues. She said Biden’s administration should have allowed for greater legal action earlier. Welch believes the administration should have acted soon after taking office in 2021 to allow investigators to fully investigate the January 6 US Capitol attack.

Welch criticized former Attorney General Merrick Garland for not prosecuting Trump sooner. She thought the Justice Department delayed too long to designate a special counsel to oversee investigations.

Jack Smith was named special counsel by the DOJ to lead Trump investigations. One inquiry examined Trump’s handling of confidential materials at his Florida home, while another explored efforts to invalidate the 2020 presidential election. Both cases were dropped. Trump has denied wrongdoing and called the investigations “witch hunts.”

Welch criticised Democratic Party leaders in the podcast as well as the justice system. She said that Republicans were pursuing long-standing political techniques, but Trump had made them more apparent and controversial. She compared Trump’s attitude to former President George W. Bush, who had similar policies but was less combative.

Despite criticizing the Biden administration’s legal tactics, Welch praised its legislative achievements. She lauded the CHIPS and Science Act, which strengthens U.S. semiconductor manufacturing and research, and the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, which modernizes transportation systems, broadband networks, and other vital public works.

Welch said she believes the government missed an opportunity to handle a major political threat. She believed tougher legal action earlier in Biden’s term could have transformed the political situation.

Congress’ Democratic leadership was also criticized by Welch. She asked New York Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries what they are doing now that Biden is gone.

She highlighted lingering differences in American politics, notably among Democratic supporters and analysts who believe the party should have been more forceful legal and political toward Trump earlier in Biden’s administration.

The argument reflects a national discussion about accountability, political strategy, and the Justice Department’s investigation of former presidents. As legal and political problems around Trump continue to alter the national landscape, different political voices disagree on how to approach them and what they mean for American politics.
