No F-ing Way: Schumer Launches Fierce Attack on Trump Republicans Over Shutdown

In a fiery video released Tuesday, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer accused President Donald Trump and the Republican majority in Congress of dangerously destroying health care protections during the federal government shutdown. He portrayed the conflict as a desperate struggle for millions of lives, saying that Republicans are endangering millions to pursue tax and spending policies that benefit the wealthy.

Schumer accused GOP senators of trying to “take health care away” from tens of millions of Americans and shutting down the government without proper negotiation. Democrats have opposed Republican spending proposals that don’t support expiring Obamacare subsidies. He called the standoff “literally life or death” and said Democrats would not let Republicans destroy the health care system they depend on.

He then criticized Republicans’ “Big Beautiful Bill” as a betrayal of the American people. He said that plan eliminates a trillion dollars from health care, expires ACA tax credits, and raises premiums considerably. He said 22 million more would pay higher premiums and 4 million could lose insurance. He warned of $2,500 premium increases and 450,000 individuals losing coverage in New York, especially working-class families already struggling.

Schumer claimed normal premiums would rise for everyone, not just ACA beneficiaries. He said the struggle is for everyday Americans, not politicians. He said Republicans intentionally shut down to force their agenda rather than protect crucial services.

Schumer concluded by promising to defend the public against attempts to “blow up our health care system.” He blamed Trump and Republican leaders for ignoring a “ticking time bomb” that threatens millions. He said House Democrats are united with citizens’ interests and will fight until the crisis is resolved.

No one knows when the shutdown will end since neither side is willing to compromise. Public opinion appears to favor holding Republicans and the president accountable, while President Trump and his allies blame Democrats for the standoff. Recent polls found that 39 percent of Americans blamed Trump and GOP legislators for the closure, 30 percent Democrats, and 31 percent both. The shutdown is now unpopular: 32% favor Trump, 28% support House Republicans, and 27% support Democrats. Disapproval ratings are high: 52% disapprove of Trump and Republicans’ crisis management, while 49% disapprove of Democrats’.
