New Jersey Law Student Builds Remarkable ‘Jeopardy!’ Streak, Moves Closer to State Record
A New Jersey-based law student is quickly becoming one of the most talked-about contestants in the history of Jeopardy!, after securing his 20th consecutive victory and climbing higher on the show’s all-time leaderboard.
Jamie Ding, a resident of Lawrenceville, delivered another dominant performance in his latest appearance, adding more than $33,000 to his growing total winnings. With this milestone, he now stands tied for the seventh-longest winning streak in the show’s decades-long history, matching the record previously set by Julia Collins, a well-known figure among fans of the quiz show.
Ding’s continued success has also placed him among the top performers ever to come out of New Jersey. With 20 straight wins, he has officially surpassed David Madden, who held a 19-game streak in 2005. This achievement now makes Ding the second most successful contestant from the state, further strengthening his position as one of the standout players of the current season.
However, the top spot for New Jersey contestants is still held by Cris Pannullo, who recorded a 21-game winning streak in 2022. Ding is now within reach of tying that record and potentially surpassing it in upcoming episodes, depending on whether his winning run continues.
In terms of total earnings, Ding is also making significant progress, although he remains slightly behind Pannullo. So far, Ding has accumulated over $572,000 in regular-season winnings, placing him among the top earners in the show’s history. Pannullo, by comparison, earned more than $748,000 during his run, securing a higher position in overall rankings.
Beyond his gameplay, Ding has gained attention for his personality and remarks on the show. During a March appearance, he made a lighthearted comment comparing New Jersey’s housing progress to neighboring states, drawing laughs from both the audience and host Ken Jennings. Ding, who works with the New Jersey Housing and Mortgage Finance Agency, explained his role in managing tax credit programs aimed at supporting affordable housing development.
Despite his rapid rise, Ding still faces a significant challenge if he hopes to reach the top of the all-time leaderboard. The record for the longest winning streak in “Jeopardy!” history remains firmly held by Ken Jennings, who achieved an extraordinary 74 consecutive wins in 2004. Jennings also holds the record for the highest total winnings during regular gameplay, exceeding $2.5 million.
For now, Ding’s focus remains on maintaining his momentum. With each new victory, he continues to build his legacy and attract national attention. Whether he can break into the top tier of “Jeopardy!” legends will depend on how long he can sustain his current form in the highly competitive quiz environment.
His journey, however, has already marked a significant moment for New Jersey and for fans of the show, as a new contender steadily rises through the ranks of one of television’s most iconic competitions.
