Cameron Diaz Returns to the Spotlight as Filming Begins for Netflix Action-Comedy “Bad Day” in New Jersey

Cameron Diaz is back in action with Netflix’s “Bad Day,” filmed in New Jersey. Plainfield residents saw the actress on Park Avenue in a red vest as “Joy,” working in Rooms & More, a fake retail shop. Her comeback to acting after a decade is remarkable. Laura Solon wrote and Jake Szymanski directed the project, which is being shot in Plainfield, Bloomfield, Passaic, and Perth Amboy, New Jersey.
In “Bad Day,” Diaz plays a single mother struggling to keep a promise to her daughter on her worst day. Action and comedy combine to create a new take on chaos and parental determination. This new picture pulls toward humor as much as drama, yet critics have compared it to Falling Down from 1993. Oscar nominee Danielle Brooks, veteran actor Ed O’Neill, and comedian John Higgins join Diaz. Production is handled by Beau Bauman’s Good One Productions.
Diaz married musician Benji Madden in 2015 and had two children, Raddix in 2019 and Cardinal in 2024, after retiring from acting after Annie (2014). As a Netflix film opposite Jamie Foxx, Back in Action marked her return to Hollywood production this year. Bad Day positions her for a continuous return, displaying her enthusiasm to try new tales and roles.
Diaz wore her character’s uniform and store vest throughout filming in Plainfield. The crew has shot scenes in Bloomfield and Passaic and will shortly shoot in other New Jersey neighborhoods. Residents and filmgoers have noticed the production’s local presence, giving them a rare chance to witness a prominent actor in action.
Diaz’s return with “Bad Day” shows her determination to return to film on her own terms. She has expressed thanks for the chance to perform again and remains open to future projects while retaining the right to withdraw. With “Bad Day,” she asserts her relevance in streaming film.
