After Iran Strikes, Trump Projects Confidence as Military Campaign Expands

President Donald Trump is expressing confidence after synchronized U.S. and Israeli military strikes on Iran, according to ABC News Chief Washington Correspondent Jonathan Karl. Trump revealed that the US and Israel conducted “major combat operations” together, escalating Middle East tensions.
Trump said in a video message early Saturday that American forces had joined Israel in attacking Iranian facilities. He directly urged Iranians to “take over your government” after the military campaign, saying “the hour of your freedom is at hand.” He sent a military and political message to Tehran’s leadership.
Trump’s announcement that Ali Khamenei was assassinated exacerbated the issue. He called Khamenei “one of the most evil people in history,” portraying the operation as strategic and personal.
Karl described his private conversation with the president on Good Morning America. According to Karl, Trump believed few could have pulled off such a move. Trump added, “Nobody could have done this but me,” demonstrating his “feelings invincible” nature, according to Karl.
Trump also discussed earlier actions. Last June’s strike on three Iranian nuclear sites and this year’s clandestine operation to abduct Venezuela’s leader, Nicolás Maduro, and his wife were cited. Trump called the Iran operation “wildly successful,” citing past triumphs as inspiration.
Karl added that Trump suggested he would have handled Iran discussions differently last year. The journalist reported that Trump claimed he would have accepted Iranian concessions in past conversations but that recent military advances changed his mind. “We have become spoiled,” Trump reportedly remarked Karl, meaning battlefield results had lessened his compromise.
Trump implied that potential successors to Iran’s leadership were no longer viable when asked about the future. Karl repeated Trump’s claim that “second or third place is dead,” meaning that the strikes altered leadership outcomes. Trump also stated he had spoken to at least one Iranian official, although he did not name them.
According to Karl, the president said U.S. military operations may last four to five weeks, but that could change based on ground conditions. Trump told Axios he could “go long and take over the whole thing, or end it in two or three days.” In an interview with The New York Times, he said he had “three very good choices” for Iran’s next leader but didn’t identify them.
The larger battle has had devastating effects. Iran has increased strikes on Israel and Middle Eastern targets. Israel retaliated after Iran-backed Hezbollah fired rockets from Lebanon. Global officials worry about future escalation as violence has spread regional instability.
Operation Epic Fury, a U.S.-Israeli combined operation, has killed four American military men, according to Central Command. The operation’s human cost was confirmed in a public declaration.
Karl also noted that in 2024, while President Joe Biden was in office, U.S. security officials suspected Iran was attempting to assassinate Trump. That intelligence assessment may have influenced Trump. Trump said, “I got him before he got me,” Karl said. Twice they tried. I killed Khamenei first.
The incidents are one of the most dramatic U.S.–Iran escalations in recent years. Situation is fluid due to direct military involvement and leadership claims in global news. The president’s recent comments suggest that the government regards the campaign as decisive and justifiable, but long-term plan has not yet been disclosed.
The military engagement’s duration, Iran’s response, and diplomatic channels’ status are being monitored. Even as regional uncertainty rises, Trump’s public tone is confident and determined.
