Delaware Police Charge New Jersey Man After Pepper Spray Incident at Newark Wawa

Authorities say a parking lot disagreement between two drivers at a Wawa convenience store in Newark, Delaware, evolved into a criminal case.
Wawa on East Chestnut Hill Road in Newark was the scene about 12:30 p.m. Thursday. A parking lot attack was reported to Delaware State Police, who responded.
Aldo Funari II, 52, of Carneys Point, New Jersey, and 69, of Newark, Delaware, fought, according to police. Investigators said the fight started verbally. One motorist accused the other of hitting his car, which escalated tensions.
Delaware State Police say Funari pepper-sprayed the other driver in the eyes, escalating the dispute. At the site, emergency personnel treated the 69-year-old male. Officials reported no life-threatening injuries.
Following the investigation, troopers charged Funari with second-degree assault. Police say he was released on bond after processing. Court dates and more charges were unavailable.
Such incidents demonstrate how fast parking lot disputes can become legal issues. Law enforcement officers advise drivers to stay cool and report issues to police rather than taking action.
The Delaware State Police investigation continues under state law. In all criminal cases, the accused is deemed innocent unless proven guilty.
