Giants’ Season Takes New Hit as Skattebo’s Injury Deepens Struggles

Giants rookie running back Cam Skattebo broke his ankle in the second quarter against the Philadelphia Eagles. An already terrible 2025 season became worse. When someone tackled and pinned Skattebo, his leg was injured. His hospitalization for surgery and tests followed his swift removal from the field.

The Giants already struggled to score, so losing Skattebo is devastating. Brian Daboll’s rebuilding club had few positives, but his connection with rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart was one. The Giants defeated 38–20, dropping to 2–6 and continuing their road losing run. The NFC East got worse after their 13th straight loss in Philadelphia.

Before his injury, Skattebo’s three touchdowns and run game strength assisted the Giants’ offense. He’s missing, which is bad because the squad lacks attack tools. After Skattebo left, the Giants’ defense gave up 24–6 to the Eagles.

Jaxson Dart threw for 193 yards and one touchdown on 14 of 24. In addition, he raced 17 yards and scored again. Though Dart performed well, the Eagles’ offense, spearheaded by former Giant Saquon Barkley, prevented him from returning. Barkley had over 170 yards and two touchdowns after the deal, reminding fans of his importance.

The loss revealed New York’s defense and playcalling were poor. After the game, Daboll said the Eagles “outplayed us in every phase”. Many players complained they weren’t paying attention or working. People are unhappy with the Giants’ rebuilding since they lost due of their second-half struggles.

Skattebo’s absence forces Tyrone Tracy Jr. and Devin Singletary to run a lot for the Giants. Nobody will equal Skattebo’s drive and productivity. Players called him one of the hardest-working rookies, therefore his injury damages the attack and team morale.

For Jaxson Dart, the fight is bigger than ever. His first three games without Skattebo and wide receiver Malik Nabers will test his leadership and adaptability. They must keep the Giants’ young quarterback on track without losing team trust.

No playoffs for the Giants next week. They will focus on improving at home. As the season ends, the club must regroup, choose a team, and prepare for a challenging few months.
