Young Rider Dies After Multi-Vehicle Collision on Route 73 in Atlantic County on Christmas Eve
A deadly crash on a busy South Jersey roadway claimed the life of a young motorcyclist on Christmas Eve, underscoring ongoing safety concerns during the holiday travel period.
According to New Jersey State Police, the fatal accident happened in the early evening hours, around 5:21 p.m., on northbound Route 73 near milepost 3.5 in Folsom Borough, Atlantic County. Traffic was moving through the area when a motorcycle and multiple vehicles became involved in a serious collision.
Authorities said the motorcycle was being operated by a 22-year-old man from Hammonton. At the same time, a southbound Audi, driven by a 40-year-old Marlton resident, attempted to make a left turn across the highway. During that maneuver, the Audi entered the northbound lanes, placing it directly in the path of the oncoming motorcycle.
The motorcycle struck the Audi, and the impact caused the rider to be thrown from the bike. Moments later, the motorcycle continued forward and collided with a northbound pickup truck that was traveling behind the Audi. Emergency responders arrived quickly at the scene, but the motorcyclist suffered fatal injuries as a result of the crash.
Police confirmed that the driver of the Audi and the occupants of the pickup truck sustained only minor injuries. They were treated at the scene and did not require extensive medical care.
The section of Route 73 where the crash occurred experienced traffic delays as investigators worked to document evidence and clear the roadway. The investigation is being led by the New Jersey State Police, who are reviewing vehicle positions, road conditions, and other contributing factors to determine exactly how the crash unfolded.
Officials have not announced whether any charges will be filed. The investigation remains active, and additional details may be released once it is complete.
