Horrific New Jersey Disaster Shocks the Neighborhood

Police claimed an automobile heading the wrong way on Route 70 at almost 100 mph started a catastrophic chain of events. One person was murdered and several were injured in the early morning incident, according to officials.

After the crash, Ocean County police are charging 47-year-old Brick Township resident Brian Baldari with multiple severe felonies. Baldari drove wrong-side of the road for two miles at 103 mph, according to investigators. He allegedly killed someone, caused a tragic accident, and attacked someone with his car.

The accident occurred in Lakewood Township at 5:50 a.m. near Airport Road and Route 70. It involved eight cars. First responders said Baldari hit an SUV head-on while traveling east in the wrong direction. After hitting something hard, the SUV hit six other automobiles before halting. It damaged the busy road.

After the crash, Manchester resident Edwin Borja, 66, was transferred to Jersey Shore University Medical Center. He died after 11 days in the hospital after being injured. Another driver injured in the crash received medical treatment and returned home. Baldari was rescued by firefighters when his automobile caught fire. He then received treatment at Jersey Shore University Medical Center and New York City Weill Cornell Medicine Burn Center.

Baldari reportedly turned himself in to police on Wednesday. Ocean County jail holds him until his due process hearing. Because of this case, people are more aware of how dangerous driving fast the wrong way is and how bad crashes can be on busy roads.

Police advise drivers to drive safely and obey traffic laws. High-speed wrong-side collisions are believed to kill or injure many. Officials are investigating the event to determine what happened prior.
