World Leaders Mock Trump Over Imaginary Peace Deal Claim

At the European Political Community summit in Copenhagen, Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama mocked former U.S. President Trump’s geography mistakes. In front of leaders, Rama joked that Macron deserved apologies for not congratulating them on a peace pact Trump purportedly struck between Albania and Azerbaijan. Trump has regularly mixed Albania with Armenia when making diplomatic statements, prompting amusement.

Trump looked to be referencing his prior gaffe, in which he claimed to have concluded a protracted conflict between “Azerbaijan and Albania,” when it was actually between Azerbaijan and Armenia. Trump said he “solved wars that were unsolvable” between those two countries in a TV interview and public appearances. Rama’s quip highlighted the gap between those assertions and the truth and elicited genuine emotions from his fellow leaders.

Trump’s diplomacy has been scrutinized lately. He has highlighted his participation in establishing a peace framework between Armenia and Azerbaijan, often over Nagorno-Karabakh. His claim of ending “seven wars” has been challenged by fact checkers, and his agreement description oversimplifies complicated regional dynamics. Albania–Armenia is the latest language gaffe that undermines his global peacemaking narrative.

In Copenhagen, Rama’s joking scolding was a critique and symbolic response. These instances highlight the difference between rhetorical spectacle and diplomatic substance as world leaders share the stage.
