Trump doubles down on attacks in New Jersey governor race

Former President Donald Trump blasted Democratic challenger Mikie Sherrill and endorsed Republican Jack Ciattarelli in the New Jersey governorship race days before Election Day. He portrayed the election as a choice between Republican energy and tax cuts and the “radical left” on social media and at rallies.
Trump recommended voters to vote for Ciattarelli because Sherrill promoted transgender women’s sports athletes, high crime, and rising energy prices. He stated gas prices will drop to two dollars per gallon under his administration and soar to four, five, or six under a Democrat governor. Democratic leadership caused large energy bill increases.
This year’s New Jersey governor’s race is about energy policy. Rising energy bills worry New Jersey residents, and Trump blamed Democratic support for wind energy and other green projects. His prediction was that Ciattarelli will restore affordability and common sense government.
Active campaigner Trump. He promoted Ciattarelli before the election and endorsed him in primary. He named Ciattarelli a “special guy” who will free New Jersey from left-wing tyranny and reduce energy costs online. Democrats are leveraging Ciattarelli’s Trump ties to hurt his moderate and independent appeal. Sherrill’s team says New Jersey needs a leader who prioritizes state issues over culture battles.
The New Jersey contest is considered as a national referendum on political direction as Election Day approaches. Republican efforts to flip a blue state governor’s seat depend on Trump’s energy-cost message. Those tired of politics may like his message. Polls favor Sherrill, but a GOP surge is probable. Candidates and Trump are under pressure to win or lose.
