Toll Increases Are Coming to Delaware River Bridges. Here’s How Much More You Will Pay to Cross
Delaware River bridge users between New Jersey and Pennsylvania may pay extra in 2026. The Delaware River Joint Toll Bridge Commission raised eight toll bridges’ fees on January 1. To be determined in December.
The idea hikes passenger automobile tolls to $2 with E-ZPass and $5 without. 87% of passenger car drivers utilize E-ZPass, which is cheaper than cash. A long-term plan protects commission infrastructure and finances with the raise.
The raise follows a New Jersey-wide toll increase. The New Jersey Turnpike Authority approved a 3% driving increase for January 1 early this year. 3% CPI-based toll increases would add 25 cents to charges, according to the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey.
The Joint Toll Bridge Commission said the toll rise is necessary to overcome predicted general budget reserve balance and debt service coverage ratio deficiencies. These traits assist bond-rating companies evaluate public authority stability and creditworthiness. Extra funds will fund infrastructure projects, cover construction costs, and raise commission municipal bond rates.
The toll increase will speed up the commission’s aim of electronic toll collection on all toll bridges, simplifying payments and cutting congestion. Future rehabilitation and upgrades will involve several bridges. Major projects include the Lower Trenton bridge (1804-1805 substructures) and the Calhoun Street bridge (1884 superstructure).

Daily commuter transportation expenditures may climb. The group stressed that these changes are necessary to keep bridges safe, contemporary, and profitable for decades.
