Son of Music Icons Ike and Tina Turner Passes Away at 67

After a long illness, Grammy-winning son of Ike and Tina Turner, Izear “Ike” Turner Jr., died at 67. According to family member Jacqueline Bullock, Turner Jr. died of kidney failure at a Los Angeles hospital after years of heart issues and a stroke.
When Tina married Ike in 1962, she adopted Turner Jr., born in 1958 to Lorraine Taylor and Ike Turner Sr. From two, she raised him. Raised by his parents’ colorful and chaotic occupations. He switched from drums to keyboards, probably prompted by his mother. Tina appeared in his early sound engineering work after her divorce from Ike Sr.
He emphasized his father’s music and Bolic Sound Studios. Turner Jr. produced his father’s 2007 Grammy-winning album “Risin’ With the Blues.” His technical skills and blues/R&B understanding gained him industry praise.
Despite his success, Turner Jr. had personal issues and terminated relationships. Turner Jr. revealed he felt isolated from his parents throughout Tina Turner’s long estrangement before her 2023 death in interviews. The 2023 crack cocaine possession and evidence tampering arrest weeks before his mother’s death caused legal issues.
Turner Jr.’s parents Ike Sr. (died in 2007) and Tina (died in 2023) and brothers Craig (suicide in 2018) and Ronnie (colorectal cancer in 2022) died before him. Only Tina Turner’s adopted son Michael remains.
After his death, Jacqueline Bullock remembers him as a great musician and a sibling she was closer to than a cousin because they grew up together. The music industry and fans hailed his resilience, musicianship, and loyalty to his family’s musical tradition after his passing.
