Secret Plans for ICE Detention Center at NJ Military Base – Even Commanders Don’t Know!

Something big might be happening at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst in New Jersey—but no one, not even the military commanders, seems to know the full story. The government is considering turning part of the base into a detention center for immigrants, but details are being kept under wraps.

What We Know So Far

  • The Department of Defense (DoD) quietly approved a plan to use the base for holding detainees.
  • Local leaders and military officials say they haven’t been given clear instructions—just a vague notification.
  • If it happens, the facility could hold 1,000 to 3,000 detainees, making it one of the largest in New Jersey.

Why the Confusion?

  • Rep. Donald Norcross, who has been in Congress for 11 years, said, “I’ve never been shut out like this by my own government.”
  • The Pentagon claims the base’s normal operations won’t be affected, but no one knows for sure.

Who’s Against the Plan?

A group of New Jersey lawmakers, including top senators, strongly oppose the idea. They say:
“This is the wrong use of military resources.”
“It could lead to unfair treatment of detainees.”

But DHS insists only low-risk detainees (those linked to crime or drugs) would be held there.

What Happens Next?

The government’s approval for the plan lasts until 30 September 2025.  so a decision could come soon. Will the base really become a detention center? Or will local pushback stop it?
