Second Earthquake in 4 Days Shakes New Jersey—What’s Stirring Beneath the Surface?

It was a surprise when homes in northern New Jersey shook again on Tuesday just after noon. It was the second time in four days. A lot of people were shocked by the sudden rumble. The shocks hit Bergen County, Connecticut, Delaware, and Virginia.
The tiny Hillsdale earthquake, approximately a mile southwest of the town center, was first rated 2.7. People worry about why the earth is trembling more this week when they experience tremors. No one was hurt or property damaged.
Even though there was little shaking, many inside were concerned and hurried outside to check what was happening. Recently, nearby residents felt an earthquake like this. New Jersey, which isn’t usually known for earthquakes, had two of these right after each other. Some people thought this was funny.
The U.S. Geological Survey stated that there was a quake and that it was big. They said that the northeastern U.S. does have small earthquakes like this every so often. But it’s not two in less than a week. That scares people and makes them think.
Is there movement below the surface, or is this just nature’s random way of showing how strong it is?
