Pennsylvania Police Cite New Jersey Driver After SUV Breaks Through Frozen Golf Course Pond

Local police in Pennsylvania cited a 50-year-old Hoboken man after his SUV partially sank in an icy pond at a private golf club.

The event occurred at Lancaster Country Club in East Lampeter Township. A vehicle was reported in a course pond about 10:40 a.m. on Thursday, prompting police to respond.

Police arrived to find the SUV half-sunk in frozen water. It was risky and unstable because ice enveloped most of the vehicle. The truck was driven into the golf course the night before at around 8:30 p.m., according to authorities. According to East Lampeter Township Police, the driver entered the property and drove onto a frozen pond. The SUV was too heavy for the ice, so it broke apart and trapped it.

The driver fled the immobilized SUV and left without reporting the incident to police or property owners, police said. Investigators discovered that the man stayed at a local hotel instead of calling 911.

The driver went to the golf course the next day and found officers investigating the bizarre scene. Police cited the man for motor vehicle trespass in Pennsylvania after analyzing the situation. He was summoned to court for the incident.

Authorities reported no injuries and no additional charges.

Police warn drivers that entering private property without authorization, especially in winter, can have major legal and safety consequences. Frozen ponds and lakes can collapse under vehicle weight, posing life-threatening threats.

The matter will now go via Pennsylvania courts.
