Nick Jonas and Paul Rudd Join Forces in Upcoming Musical Film ‘Power Ballad’

New Jersey favorites Nick Jonas and Paul Rudd are starring in Power Ballad, a musical comedy. Lionsgate’s June 5, 2026 picture has already garnered excitement from fans of both actors. The film promises an emotional yet amusing mix of humor, music, and heart from Irish director John Carney, known for Begin Again and Sing Street.

For Power Ballad, Paul Rudd plays Rick, a wedding singer who has seen better days. When he meets Danny, a former boy band member played by Nick Jonas, his life changes. Danny tries to recover his glory by singing one of Rick’s songs after their fateful meeting. When Rick claims to have written the song, tension and comedy highlight the complexities of fame and friendship.

The cast features Peter McDonald, Havana Rose Liu, Jack Reynor, and Marcella Plunkett, a diverse group. The plot is supposed to evoke 1980s and 1990s pop culture while tackling the present music industry’s authenticity and fame issues.

The film’s anticipation is boosted by Jonas and Rudd’s New Jersey roots. Wyckoff and Little Falls native Nick Jonas, 33, became famous as part of the Jonas Brothers. The pop group’s 20th anniversary Greetings From Your Hometown Tour includes Newark’s Prudential Center. The trio will also be inducted into the New Jersey Hall of Fame this year, another career milestone.

Paul Rudd, who was born in Passaic and raised in Palisades Park, is a popular Hollywood actor known for Clueless, Ant-Man, Knocked Up, and Ghostbusters: Afterlife. Rudd’s charm, humor, and ageless appeal have kept him popular for generations. He was honored into the New Jersey Hall of Fame last year and proudly recounted his family’s Paterson and neighboring ties.

The film is set to showcase Jonas and Rudd’s musical chemistry, humorous timing, and poignant performances. Power Ballad could be one of 2026’s most anticipated feel-good pictures with Carney’s direction, pop music, and humor.

Power Ballad appears to combine the artists’ music and cinema careers to highlight their shared roots, comedy, and talent. New Jersey fans can be proud to witness two of their own stars in a film about music, innovation, and second chances.
