New Jersey’s Sweet Unity: Voters Across All Parties Choose the Same Halloween Favorite

Halloween candy has united New Jerseyans across the aisle as political tensions rise before elections. A Rutgers-Eagleton Poll found that all parties favor Reese’s.
The season’s champion was Reese’s Halloween candy, which 21% of respondents favored. Snickers ranked second at 11% and candy corn, always divisive, third at 9%. New Jersey’s Halloween tastes still favor chocolate-based confectionery, while KitKat placed fourth with 7%.
Rutgers researchers found voters adore chocolate. According to Eagleton Center for Public Interest Polling data management and analysis head Jessica Roman, candy corn has been controversial in prior surveys, but this year’s results indicate a significant shift toward chocolate-based sweets. Fruity or sour candies didn’t make the top ten, showing New Jersey’s Halloween chocolate craving.
The poll found Reese’s popular across parties, gender, race, money, and education. Regardless of candidate, most people think peanut butter and chocolate are the ideal Halloween combo.
Only those 50–64 beat the Reese’s trend by selecting Snickers. This minor generational gap indicates how nostalgia and personal taste may influence sweets choices as much as politics to vote.
Despite disagreements on candidates and trick-or-treating methods, New Jerseyans’ candy baskets are sweet. Reese’s seems to have done what few politicians can: unify people for Halloween in a divided time.
