New Jersey Fugitive Captured Abroad After Camden Double Shooting

After months of international search, authorities in Spain found the alleged killer of a horrific double shooting in Camden, New Jersey.

The Spanish National Police arrested Felix De La Cruz-Arias, 30, in Barcelona on Friday. He was accused of murdering Jose Hiraldo-Peralta and wounding another last year.

Cruz-Arias was charged with first-degree murder for Hiraldo-Peralta’s March 12, 2025, shooting death on Morse Street’s 300 block. A 28-year-old gunshot survivor was harmed by the defendant, who faces first-degree attempted murder charges.

“This arrest sends a clear message that violence in our community will be pursued wherever it leads, even internationally,” said Camden County prosecutor Grace MacAulay.

Brooklyn native Cruz-Arias is in Spanish police custody awaiting extradition to New Jersey. Local officials, a U.S. Marshals task force, and the DOJ coordinated the investigation and arrest. His capture location and method remain unclear.

U.S. Marshal for the District of New Jersey Nicholas Ricigliano encouraged international collaboration in arresting fugitives. Two more Camden County fugitives were captured in Mexico and Ukraine last year after similar efforts.

ShotSpotter alerted Camden police to gunfire. Police found Hiraldo-Peralta on the street and the other victim at an adjacent residence. Cooper University Hospital, two miles from the shooting, took both victims. Injury killed Hiraldo-Peralta.

New Jersey court records don’t list Cruz-Arias’ counsel. Authorities continue to work with Spain to extradite him to the US for trial.

This case indicates that U.S. and foreign law enforcement will prosecute dangerous criminals wherever they hide.
