New Jersey Easter Forecast Brings Storm Risk and Strong Winds After Warm Weekend Start
New Jersey is set to experience a noticeable shift in weather conditions over the Easter weekend, as a warm and pleasant Saturday gives way to unsettled conditions on Sunday. Residents across the state can expect a mix of showers, gusty winds, and isolated thunderstorms, especially as a cold front moves through the region.
Saturday will begin on a mild and sunny note, but temperatures will vary significantly depending on location. In the northern part of the state, morning temperatures are expected to climb into the mid-60s to low 70s before dropping later in the day as the cold front approaches. Meanwhile, southern areas could see much warmer conditions, with afternoon highs reaching the upper 70s to low 80s. These warmer readings may come close to challenging long-standing temperature records for early April.
As the day progresses, parts of central and northern New Jersey may experience scattered showers and possibly a thunderstorm by late afternoon. By nighttime, conditions are expected to become more stable but cloudy, with low clouds and fog developing across several areas.
The weather pattern will change more noticeably on Sunday. Showers are expected to become more widespread throughout the state, with isolated thunderstorms possible, particularly in southern regions. The day will start relatively mild, with temperatures in the mid-60s to low 70s during the morning hours. However, as the cold front continues to move through, temperatures will drop during the afternoon.
In addition to rainfall, strong winds will be a key concern on Sunday morning. Wind gusts could reach between 30 to 35 miles per hour before gradually easing later in the day. Rainfall totals are expected to range between a quarter-inch and a half-inch, which may lead to wet conditions but is not expected to cause significant flooding.
Looking ahead to the start of the new week, conditions will improve on Monday with mostly sunny skies and cooler temperatures in the 50s. The cooling trend will continue into Tuesday and Wednesday, with daytime highs staying in the 40s and 50s, which is about 5 to 10 degrees below typical early April levels.
By Thursday, temperatures are expected to gradually rise again, signaling a return to more moderate conditions. By Friday, readings may move back above normal, bringing a more comfortable end to the week.
