New Jersey Driver Arrested for Alleged Drunk Driving After E-Bike Crash Sends Teen to Hospital

A 43-year-old Brick Township man was charged with multiple counts after hitting a minor e-bike rider and departing late Saturday night. The incident hospitalized a 15-year-old and raised electric bike road safety concerns.

The Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office reported a Brick Township Midstreams Road and Place crash at 10:55 p.m. A car going left into Midstreams Road hit the boy, seriously wounding him, investigators say.

One car drove west on Midstreams Road without saving the toddler. The adolescent is stable at Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune after emergency transfer.

Police say man approached crash site from afar. Brick Township resident William Donohoe, 43, was suspected of driving. Donohoe departed after appearing drunk, according to investigators.

DUI, auto assault, and fleeing a serious accident got him detained. Police anticipate more blood alcohol test results. Donohoe is in Ocean County Jail.

The crash prompted suburban e-bike safety concerns, especially at night. DUI and sharing roads with bikes and pedestrians are discouraged by police.

The tragedy taught Brick Township people that irresponsibility kills. The driver will be held accountable and the adolescent victim and family will receive justice while police investigate.
