New Jersey Commuters Face Higher Travel Costs in 2026 Across Roads and Bike Shares

New Jersey commuters will pay more in early 2026 regardless of vehicle. Many toll agencies and transportation businesses boosted highway, bridge, tunnel, and bike sharing membership rates. Statewide travel costs more.
NJ Turnpike and Garden State Parkway drivers will pay 3% more starting January 1. These major roadways have experienced five toll hikes since March 2020. The Delaware Memorial Bridge to George Washington Bridge Turnpike costs $22 cash. E-ZPass costs $21.24–21.88 peak and $15.93–16.40 off-peak. Cash and E-ZPass tolls at Garden State Parkway mainline plazas will rise from $2.30 to $2.37 and $2.17 to $2.24. The Paramus, Clifton, and Red Bank highway ramps will increase.
The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, which operates six major bridges and tunnels, will raise prices again on January 4. The 25-cent fee and 3% inflation hurt drivers. For instance, E-ZPass off-peak car tolls will rise from $14.06 to $14.79 and peak-period charges from $16.06 to $16.79. Non-E-ZPass pay-by-plate tolls will rise from $22.38 to $23.30. The authority said its $10 billion 2026 budget and $45 billion 10-year capital plan included these hikes. PATH users pay more in May 2026.
Electronic tolling begins on the Atlantic City Expressway on January 4. License plate billing is used by non-E-ZPass drivers. In November 2025, major plaza pay-by-plate tolls will rise from $4.85 to $4.99 and E-ZPass from $3.10 to $3.19. Small exits will expand.
E-ZPass on Delaware River Joint Toll Bridge Commission bridges costs $2 on January 1, cash $5. The Delaware River Port Authority crossings between New Jersey and Philadelphia will not raise tolls.
Bike riders and sharers pay more. CitiBike, covering Jersey City, Hoboken, and New York, will boost membership and riding costs on January 5. Annual memberships and rides cost $219–239. The corporation cited tariffs for price increases.
Private and public transit customers in New Jersey will pay more due to financial and maintenance trends. Expect higher commuting fees in January 2026.
