New Jersey Braces for Rapid Temperature Shift as Cool Air Moves In

The weather is changing as a weak cold front enters New Jersey. This will cause a big temperature drop late this week. After a beautiful Sunday, fans can expect cooler, drier air by midweek.

Rain and fog will start Sunday morning, but the skies should clear by late morning. Strong fog warnings are in effect for Sussex, Warren, Morris, Hunterdon, Somerset, Middlesex, and Mercer counties until midmorning. All day, highs will be in the upper 70s to low 80s with light, changing breezes.

Tonight, the feeble cold front may bring cooler air. It won’t rain much, but this front will show air changes. Tuesday will be pleasant with afternoon highs in the mid 70s to low 80s with largely overcast skies. The cooler Canadian air mass will change everything on Tuesday night.

Coolest days are Wednesday and Thursday. Today will be cold, with highs barely above the upper 60s to low 70s. These days will be the coolest this season. Evening lows in the middle of the country may be in the upper 40s or low 50s. Winds of 20–25 mph around the Jersey Shore and shoreline make it feel like fall.

Despite the weather shift, this week won’t see substantial rain. By Friday and over the weekend, a high-pressure area will calm the weather. Things will gently warm up, reaching the low 70s by Saturday.

Prepare for the rapid change from summer to October air. Mornings and evenings may require a light jacket or sweater. When the temperature drops quickly and the air feels frigid midweek in New Jersey, fall is slowly coming.
