New Jersey Begins Mailing Stay NJ Property Tax Relief Checks to Eligible Homeowners

New Jersey households should check their mailboxes this week. State Treasury Department officials say all authorized Stay NJ property tax relief payments will arrive by paper check.
Stay NJ benefits will not be deposited online like ANCHOR benefits. State officials say all qualified homeowners will get their payout via mail. Residents should carefully scrutinize their mail during the next few days to prevent losing the check.
The New Jersey Treasury reports rolling payments. While some homeowners will receive their payouts shortly, others may take weeks. Distribution will continue in stages, thus a delayed payment does not necessarily signal a problem.
State officials expect the average Stay NJ installment payment to be $639. The bonus has been granted for 438,000 homeowners. The program provides significant property tax relief to senior homeowners and Social Security disability recipients.
The New Jersey Department of the Treasury’s online benefit status feature lets homeowners track their payments. The system shows residents if their application is approved or processed. The tool shows the homeowner’s estimated payment date and whether they qualify for ANCHOR or Senior Freeze if authorized. Despite technical challenges with the status page, the department continues to grant access.
After combining ANCHOR and Senior Freeze benefits, homeowners receive Stay NJ. If the two programs comprise less than half of the homeowner’s property tax bill, limited at $6,500, the state pays an extra Stay NJ payment. Within program constraints, this structure assures qualified homeowners receive relief that brings their total benefit closer to half of their property tax bill.
Homeowners 65 and older and Social Security disability recipients with a $500,000. income limit are eligible. Homeowners who did not get determination letters outlining their ANCHOR, Senior Freeze, and Stay NJ benefits can review their benefit specifics on state resources.
The state provides support for residents with questions or needs. Stay NJ homeowners can call (888) 238-1233 or visit a regional help center for advice. Appointments are optional, but state channels allow advance scheduling.
For the next benefit year, New Jersey homeowners can complete the PAS-1 combined application for ANCHOR, Senior Freeze, and Stay NJ. Applications are open, but payouts for the 2025 benefit year depend on state budget approval by July 1.
These payments provide timely relief for many New Jersey families who struggle with property taxes. State officials advise homeowners to check their mail and use Treasury tools for benefit status updates.
