Neighbors Stunned as Teen Charged in Fatal Stabbing of N.J. Mom in Condo Complex

A 49-year-old mother was stabbed at home over the weekend, and her teenage son was charged with murder. Meadowbrook Condos in family-friendly Mays Landing was broken into by police, scaring tenants.

A knife-wielding child called 911, and officers arrived at the home at 6:05 p.m. Saturday. Police discovered Julissa Serrano stabbed repeatedly. After admission, she died at AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center. Residents who knew Serrano as kind and sensitive were shocked by the violence.

This resident saw the shackled teen leave but learnt of Serrano’s death the next morning. Another neighbor two doors away stated TV vans informed him. He claimed Serrano was polite and quiet, greeting neighbors occasionally but largely staying to herself.

Police have not revealed the stabbing’s cause or how the 17-year-old was identified as the suspect. The Atlantic County Prosecutor confirmed the child’s homicide, handgun possession, and weapon use. Harborfields Atlantic Youth Center hosts his court debut. Because of the suspect’s age and continuing investigation, officials won’t comment.

Serrano was a cheery home health aide Journey Hospice admired. Her coworkers said she warmed every home and bonded with patients and families. She was often honored by the company for her excellent job and ability to make people happy.

Her employer said Serrano treated terminally ill patients for three years. Death affects family and numerous professional ties. Journey Hospice of Lutheran Social Ministries of New Jersey lauded her to staff and patients.

The community mourns a mother and child accused of heinous crimes during the investigation. As many mourn the tragedy close to home, the complex mourns.
