Mystery on ‘The Masked Singer’ Takes a Surprising Turn as Travis Kelce Guess Misses the Mark

After signs pointed to NFL player Travis Kelce on a recent episode of The Masked Singer, viewers and panelists speculated. Celebrities perform in elaborate costumes while judges use hints and auditory clues to identify them, making the show popular. After a clue linked Kelce to Taylor Swift, the mystery of “High Voltage” immediately gained notice during the March 11 show.

As the masked singer sang Daniel Powter’s Bad Day, the show created suspense. The participant said after the performance that his biggest hint to his identity was always there. The costume’s front read “22 V” and referenced Swift’s smash song 22. That prompted the panel to consider Kelce, who has been linked to Swift recently.

As the panel disputed their theories, judge Rita Ora saw something essential about the costume that others missed. She said the clues may be related to soccer, not football. The judges understood when they saw that the character’s head was fashioned like a soccer ball the whole time. Though they recognized the clue, the panelists couldn’t identify the celebrity. McCarthy thought Ted Lasso soccer coach Jason Sudeikis was the answer.

At the moment of truth, the judges found all their guesses wrong. The High Voltage outfit was created by Alexi Lalas, a former professional soccer player and renowned sports analyst. Lalas played for the US in the 1994 FIFA World Cup and wore number 22, which was the major hint that fooled the panelists.

After exposing his identity, Lalas joked about the obvious clues. He told the judges that the soccer ball on top of the costume was an obvious indication they missed. Once they realized the clues were in plain sight throughout the performance, the panel laughed.
