Mercer County Case: 29-Year-Old Man Faces Murder Charge After Woman Found Dead in Apartment

A 29-year-old New Jersey man is now facing a serious criminal charge after authorities say a woman was found dead inside an apartment in Mercer County last week. Officials confirmed that the case is being treated as a homicide, and the investigation remains active.

According to the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office, the accused, Carlos Pean, has been charged with first-degree murder in connection with the death of 26-year-old Adeline Alfred. The incident has raised concerns in the local community as more details continue to emerge from law enforcement officials.

The situation first came to light early Tuesday morning when police officers responded to a welfare check request at an apartment located on the first block of Bradford Avenue in Hamilton. Welfare checks are typically carried out when there are concerns about an individual’s safety or well-being.

When officers arrived at the residence around 7 a.m., they discovered Alfred unresponsive inside a bedroom. Authorities stated that she appeared to be a victim of a physical assault. Emergency responders pronounced her dead at the scene shortly after the discovery.

Following the incident, law enforcement agencies launched an investigation to identify and locate the suspect. Pean was later taken into custody on Saturday in Tinton Falls, located in Monmouth County. The arrest was carried out by members of the U.S. Marshals Service New York/New Jersey Regional Fugitive Task Force along with the prosecutor’s office Special Investigations Unit.

Officials have since moved forward with legal proceedings. Prosecutors have filed a motion seeking to keep Pean detained while he awaits trial. This means the court will decide whether he will remain in custody until further hearings take place.

At this time, information regarding legal representation for the accused has not been made available. Authorities have also not released additional details about the events leading up to the incident, as the case is still under investigation.

Law enforcement agencies are continuing their work to gather more evidence and clarify the circumstances surrounding the death. Officials are also encouraging members of the public to come forward if they have any information that could assist in the case. Tips can be shared directly with investigators or submitted anonymously through official channels.

This case remains a developing story, and further updates are expected as the investigation progresses and court proceedings begin.
